Not waiting to be diced into little pieces, though, the man turned and leaped over a nearby railing.
Sephiroth took a step towards Mira, replacing his sword in the sheath on his back. "Well fought," he said, gazing towards the railing that the man had leaped over. "Do you know who or what that man was?" he asked. He had his own ideas, but he would wait to hear hers before he shared his. "He had Materia, so it could not have been some low-class mercenary."
[[Before you ask, Materia is kind of like magic. One absorbs a materia into his or her body and he or she gains certain abilities that are unique to each materia. There are things like lightning bolts, fireballs, frost cones, pretty much anything you can think of, there is a meteria for.]]

[that's sort of what I figured regarding materia... that name rings a bell somewhere in my head. Thanks for the heads up on what they do though--that was new to me]
"no" Mira stammered, wishing sincerely that she could have said something else--anything else.

Sephiroth nodded. That was what he had expected.
"I don't know for sure, myself. However, I believe that it was a Monster." The lights flickered to life.
"You see, Monsters are what we SOLDIERs call a SOLDIER with a genetic mutation. I believe that that one could not have been higher than a 3rd class SOLDIER when he turned. Otherwise, we both would have had quite a time killing him." What Sephiroth did not share with his younger counterpart was that he himself would be called a Monster. He had been created through science and the Lifestream by the cells of the alienoid called Genova. The scientists at Shinra had spliced a DNA sample from The Great Calamity, as Genvoa was called, and created a strain of SOLDIERs that were faster, stronger, and more powerful than any others.
Unfortunately, the process carried many flaws, but the last one had been solved just before Sephiroth had been "born." He was told that he had brothers in the SOLDIER program that were just like him, created from Genova's DNA, but he had no idea who they might be.

[aaah... you sorta left me with nothing to work off of...]
"alright then," Mira replied after hearing him out, "so what do we report this as?"

[[Sorry, kinda forgot about this...]]
"Nothing yet. We'll wait and see if he comes back. In the mean time," Sephiroth turned and started walking towards the door. "Let's keep looking around, shall we? He might have left us a clue somewhere."

[it's fine]
"Aye," Mira replied, starting to look around again. "After all, only the best of the best leave no trace, and seldom does anyone stumble across anyone of that caliber."

Sephiroth raised an eyebrow at Mira's reply. That was the most that she had spoken to him this whole time. While Sephiroth was not particularly interested in forming a relationship, it is important that there be a basic working bond between two SOLDIERs in the field.
"Have you ever seen a case like this? Where the attacker makes a move with apparently no regards to logical dictation?"

"I have not," Mira replied, "at least, nothing quite like this."
she paused. "why?" she asked curiously, "have you?" ~Sanaki~

"Not personally, no. But I do know that we must be careful. Even if he has apparently left, we know that he is capable of using materia and so he may be capable of much more." He paused for a moment, weighing his options. "Watching security footage would be a waste of time. He would not let himself be seen on that. But perhaps he has missed something."
Without another word, he began to move around the chamber, peering behind, around and in everything that he could. He was not so much looking with his eyes, but trying to get a general feeling for the intruder.

"aye," Mira remarked, "now you're thinking like I would."
She very well might have been lying about her thought process, but like with most other things, no emotion showed, rendering it very difficult, if possible at all, to tell what she was thinking.
she also began scanning the area. ~Azula~

Sephiroth quirked an eyebrow slightly at Mira's remark about him thinking like her, as he was, in fact, her elder and superior. He chose not to comment on it, though, and kept searching. There had to something!
Suddenly, an idea occurred to him. "Mira, I am going to check this conduit shaft that he just used to get up here. Chances are that it will lead to wherever he is hiding himself," he said as he moved to the five-foot opening in the wall. Heaving a sigh, he grabbed the top of the opening, took a small leap and swung his legs inside, followed soon after by the rest of his body.
The descent was steep, but short. When he felt himself enter free-fall, he extended his legs, feeling for the ground, and then rolled over his left shoulder to absorb the impact. What little he could see of the small room proved his suspicions to be correct. There was actually a small cot and space heater lying in the corner of the room. So he was in here, huh? Well, maybe he'll come back, then. Sephiroth moved away from the opening, in case Mira decided to follow him down here, and began to search through the scattered debris of disuse for any sort of clue.
He found a sword that belonged to a SOLDIER. Oh, he'll definitely be back for this.

figuring that since this could very likely be where their target could reappear, Mira decided to follow. [and if two people in a 2-player RPG get separated, it kinda kills it]
seeing evidence of someone, she made a similar deduction to Sephiroth's but true to her personality, she said nothing. ~Sanaki~
