this is also the 11th installment of TOAS2. also included are some Meili ownage, some Meili/Vigo semi-fluff, Joo Dee, and the revelation of who a major [if not THE major] villain is. enjoy.
CHAPTER 113: MEILI'S FLAWLESS VICTORY
Reyson, Malak, and their group had actually run into good bit of trouble as they made their way north. After they had made it to the Northern Water Tribe though, almost to the capital in fact, they were ambushed. In the fray of the battle that had appeared out of nowhere in front of them, this group of Avatar Mercenaries all attacked.
Meili and Sanaki were at a slight disadvantage because of the ice, and in Sanaki’s case, the cold. Maric in particular defended her carefully, and despite their little group being heavily outnumbered, they fought them off well. Meili and Vigo were reckless during the course of the fight, and as more and more of their enemies fell defeated, their strategy changed, and led to many of the waterbenders creating a vast field of steam around the area. In the darkness and the chaos, they grabbed whoever was nearest and had vanished straightaway.
Maric, Malak, Lehran and Altina quickly cleared the steam away after they felled more of their enemies, and they assessed their damage. They quickly learned that Meili of all people had been captured. Ironically, her husband Vigo of all people seemed the least upset.
“It’s Meili” he reasoned, “She probably did it on purpose so she could bash the brains of these bozos out. Aye, I think she might take some damage, but all in all, are we really going to doubt Meili?”
Sanaki giggled. “No,” she said, “no we’re not.”
“And so,” said Reyson, who sort of acted as the leader of the group, “let’s go find her. There’s a fortress-type establishment that is visible from here, and judging from the footprints, that was obviously where they went. How they got there so fast though was and is beyond me.”
Needless to say, the concent was unanimous, and so they went out to “rescue” Meili. (Though in reality, Meili would never accept that term due to her arrogance. She would simply say that she did it on purpose.)
Meili had been taken, and her captors knew of how dangerous she was. Not only had they burned her feet and imprisoned her in a wooden cell deep beneath the Northern Water Tribe where the group had landed before Meili had vanished, but she was also suspended in the air by chains.
“Meili Meisha,” a voice remarked sweetly, looking up at Meili’s adult form—Meili was a powerful woman, and so the fact that in the chaotic battle that had immediately preceded her capture, them getting Meili of all people was a surprise to Meili’s captor—Joo Dee Kanigume.
“What do you want,” Meili snapped angrily, “You’re not another Order member trying to bring me into submission, are you?”
“I might be,” Joo Dee leered, “but that’s not the point. You, my friend, are going to be the bait for say... a nice man by the name of Vigo Zakatau.”
“NO!” Meili roared, “You’re not going to do anything to him. You have me, do what you must.”
Joo Dee chuckled sweetly. “Surely you remember who I am, Meili Meisha,” she remarked, “for we met when you were 15, and again when you were 17. The first time you were just foolish, the second time you were trying to rescue your mother.”
“Lay a finger on my mom again, Joo Dee Kanigume,” Meili growled, recognizing the woman’s voice, “and I swear to the spirits above I will literally rip you limb from limb.”
“But you are in no position to do that right now are you?” she leered, “men, disable her.”
‘Disabling’ Meili meant that they burned her feet again and this time also her hands. Meili yelled from the natural pain, and tears of pain formed in the corners of her pale eyes. This was also combined with the anger she was feeling from knowing that Joo Dee and her warriors were going to try and capture her mom again made her furious.
“Willing to tell us what you were doing bringing a force of mercenaries this way into the Water Tribe?” Joo Dee asked,
“Aye,” Meili replied, “when I’m freaking dead. You can’t do anything to me that will stop the mission we have from going through. We know about your invasion, and know that you couldn’t take North Serenes even if you tried. There’s just no way.”
“Try me,” Joo Dee leered, “for you are facing the mastermind behind the entire recent revival of the Order of the Avatar Slayer—even more so than Xin Shing Shigeru himself.”
Meili screamed in pain again, but did not let her self break down. In her mind, she was far too awesome to let that happen.
“We need to get her back as soon as possible,” Vigo warned, “I don’t even want to know what sort of terrible things they might try on her. Aye, she’s awesome, and aye I guarantee that she’ll be alive when we find her, but regardless, she’s... she’s my wife—and I love her. I hate when anything bad happens to her.”
“Vigo,” Sanaki replied confidently, “we’re not letting the invasion of North Serenes go through, and neither is we going to let Meili go down. She’s far too awesome to drop anyways.”
“We need a diversion” Vigo replied, “and I think that the waterbending twins can handle this for us. If they can remove the ice and the cold, Reyson, Kimiko and Nefaho can heat the place up enough for Sanaki to try and sense where Meili and the organization are.”
“Aye,” they all responded, and they did just that. Sanaki was able to detect them, and so soon they found themselves infiltrating Joo Dee’s base. It took them much of the evening to do this though, and everything seemed so fast paced.
They stormed into the room where Sanaki sensed Meili being held, using the force of Water, Earth, and Fire to obliterate anyone who tried to stand in their way. Upon entering, they found Meili, unchained, sitting on the ground of her wooden cell. Some of the bars were damaged, but Meili looked exhausted, and her hands and feet were badly burned.
“Go back to the Tribe,” Meili warned, “this was a setup.”
Joo Dee smiled at them.
“Your friend wouldn’t lie to you,” she warned, “This is a trap. It’s as obvious as me being insane. The invasion is happening as we speak. Since you all were going to be the ones to alert North Serenes, perhaps they know about this though?”
She grinned, because she knew that there was no way they could have gotten all the way to Serenes and back that quickly.
“Run,” Meili warned, “this IS a trap, and they were expecting it. They’ve got Kyoshi Warriors all around you. GET OUT OF HERE!”
They all did except for Lehran, who remained behind and in the shadows. The Kyoshi Warriors all poured out of their hiding places and went all after the group—Joo Dee included.
Once most of them were gone, Lehran picked off the stragglers and went to free Meili healing her hands and feet to the best of his ability in the short timeframe he had, in the process.
“I can handle it from here, Serenes,” Meili chuckled, and she immediately sense more of Joo Dee’s forces coming, “Get out, and hurry. They don’t know I’m free yet.”
Lehran bolted, and Meili broke out once she was able to “see” what she was doing again. At once she was met with a pair of warriors that were intent on taking her life. Luckily, this was, indeed Meili Meisha. Joo Dee might have been a match for her but her underlings were no match against Meili Meisha.
The others congregated nearby in a more secluded area as they watched the troop’s storm the area looking for them. Everything was still happening so quickly. From their position, they could see Meili, and she was just standing there, though was apparently dangerous enough that none of the guards surrounding her dared attack her until their numbers were large enough.
Even this though, proved to be a mistake. Set inside the stone prison, Meili had earth all around her that she could use to her advantage. Single-handedly, Meili began holding off the guards, sometimes even using her metalbending skills against weapon-wielders. She one time even grabbed the blade of a man’s sword that was coming for her, and despite it cutting her hand, she bent it backwards, also launching a kick behind her at a rock shot from an enemy earthbender.
“I told you she was awesome,” Vigo chuckled quietly, “there’s no way any mere force could stand up to Meili Meisha.”
“Oh really,” said a voice behind them. They all spun around to see Joo Dee herself standing behind them.
“Who are you,” Malak asked,
“I am Joo Dee Kanigume,” Joo Dee replied sweetly, “I am simply here—no force compels me to serve either side in this war. I merely exist.”
There was an awkward silence, which was broken by Meili beating up the guards below. Joo Dee smiled.
“She is a formidable opponent,” she remarked, and noticing the skeptical looks on the faces of the others, she laughed.
“You all look at me like I’m crazy.” She chuckled.
“You look it and act it.” Vigo replied bluntly.
“Then you’re the observant one,” Joo Dee responded, “for you are correct in that regard.”
Before anyone cold reply, she had sunk underground and vanished. Sanaki changed the subject.
“Let’s go get back to Meili,” she said, “if the feelings I got from that Joo Dee woman are correct, we could be in big trouble. I’ll tell you all about it later. First let’s sit back and laugh at Meili’s Flawless Victory.”
