You heard it right, folks. Contrary to everything he/she said before his/her departure, [okay, not EVERYTHING…. That verdict was officially changed at around 25 June 2010 at 4:20 PM after a good dose of weed.] TERA SAW THE FILM.
But of course, being out in the west, where there is nothing but God-forsaken rocks for over 9000 miles around here, and so there was no midnight premiere. Luckily, that turned out to be a good thing.
Sooo…. Anyone who knew me from about January of 2010 or so, would know that I had an ultimately negative outlook on the film. That was prophecy #1 of this series. Prophecy #2 was a little more well-known, and it was worded thus.
“The Last Airbender” is just a live-action, extended edition of “The Ember Island Players”
This prophecy turned out to be very true, but hey, ever heard of things that fail so much that they win? Well, this is one of them.
Not being the cynical snot-nosed people that the eastern United States typically generates, I would be a little more merciful on my review than 7%. My overall review is as thus:
43%
So… not enough for you? Well, suck it up.
Too high? See above.
Not enough information given? Hey, hey, slow down. That’s supposed to be an option D. option C is for Chuck Norris, but… let’s not get into that, kk? ^^
Soo… not enough information? Well, let’s get crackin down to the actual bulk of this shizzle, yo.
The acting seemed pretty bad, and I am not going to judge too deeply in it, nmostly because I don’t watch enough movies or pary enough attention to the actors and actresses to be an expter on good and bad acting. Some of it though, was so noticeably bad that even I could spot it, and when THAT happens, you know it’s bad. Aang, Katara, and Sokka did not seem like very accurate portrayls of their characters to me. Aang was too emo, Sokka was too unfunny, and Katara came off to me as a minor sit on the side character. Pity, huh? But hey, OOC is exactly what Ember Island Players did, and that episode was the best one in season III by far.
The story… I had a basic idea of what went on, but that was because I was an Avatard. To me, it was like the Harry Potter movies. If you were not aware of what happened, you would get lost too easily. The HP movies were okay, but that’s straying yet again. My twin brother saw it with me and verified that theory—he didn’t know what was going on, and he’s never seen the series. But meh. :3
The characters… were, as I said, OOC. Zhao was so fail that he wrapped around and became win. EXCEPT HE HAD NO SIDEBURNS. Oh well. I guess that just added the the fail, and he failed so much he became win. They looked pretty cool though, I won’t lie. I liked the costumes. And I liked Zuko, but that was for reason that he is my doppelganger. Appa reminded me of something, but I can’t put my finger on what… my opinions on him are mixed.
The bending… I go to movies for usually two reasons, sometimes 3.
1—for the popcorn, and
2—for the effects
[3rd reason is if I’m bored]. The bending was too slow. It was like stylized dancing and it was pretty slow. Perhaps the Fire Nation owned the other nations by fighting back faster than the other benders could. It was pretty slow.
Kay, kay, best part. Those 6 earthbender dudes doing like 20 moves just for one pebble. That part actually made me laugh, and every time I think of it, it yields the same results.
I will credit the martial arts stuff though. Sure it took forever to manipulate the water, earth, or fire, but at least it looked cool while we waited for flames to fly.
The effects… my 2nd reason.
They were alright. The 3D did little to enhance them, and so a lot of it just liked like wind, rocks, water, ice, and fire. I was hoping to see some lightning action, but alas.
Alrighty. RANT TIEM.
DRAGON SPIRIT WTH?
KYOSHI LIKED GAMES, YO!
ZHAO HAS NO SIDEBURNS!!
HE WAS THROWING ROCKS AT US—AND IT REALLY HURT, YO!
WHERE WAS BUMI!?!?! D:
OOOONG, SOHKA… EEEEEEROH!?!?!
YOU HAVE NOWHERE TO RUN!
HARU WAS NOT SEXYFINE!! D: HOW COULD THEY?
So anyways, I was laughing throughout the movie. Not out loud, mind you, but inside, and once I got out. It was very much like the Ember Island Players. It was not intended to be funny, but it was hilarious, and it wasn’t very good. The effects were decent.
So ye. Another Tera prophecy came true. *adds that to file cabinet*
