This chapter is a jumbled mess of pointless nothingness at first.
by the end though, we learn about a couple of new faces, learn a little more about some older ones, learn a secret about someone who "died", some other shizzle, and a lot of Chi-Dominant Benders.
And of coruse, "Toph" is not the badass earthbender from the series. this Toph is a badass earthbender that is someone's daughter. If you can remember who shared her last name, you'll know right away.
the crappy 109th installment of "The Order of the Avatar Slayer" series, and the 7th chapter of the sequel.
enjoy, sorry about the wait, and I hopefully we be back on track.
CHAPTER 109: ELZON, TOPH, AND KYLA
“We’ve got some bad news,” Cheng and Taki II both remarked as they trudged back into the base, looking beaten up and exhausted,
“You received a permanent scar of sorts,” Maric remarked;
“You lost your chastity on the way home?” Haroku laughed;
“You are madly in love with someone,” Cheng I asked, chuckling at Haroku’s crazy [though not too far-out] remark;
“Nah, it’s worse than that,” Cheng II replied, “it’s about a chi-dominant bender, Xin Shing and Yang, a woman named Joo Dee, and a bunch of other crap that I hope my sister remembered.”
“Well do tell,” Vigo remarked, “we’re bored. We obviously need something to kill some time before the unease grows too great.”
“Vigo,” Meili remarked, hitting him hard, “if you need something to “pass the time”; I’m pretty sure that I could give you a few suggestions.”
She removed her shirt, but instead of taking things the suggestive way, she also formed a rock on her hand, and her bare feet shifted slightly.
“I get your drift,” Vigo replied, getting up, removing his shirt and following Meili out into one of the arenas. He too was barefoot, meaning that there was going to be some serious rock-smashing between these two in a few moments.
“He’s right either way,” Iresu remarked, “we didn’t become mercenaries to get a cool title; we did it because we didn’t want the old times coming back in. we need these two youngsters to elaborate on what they were saying though before we can come to any decisions.”
“Well,” Taki I remarked, “elaborate, kids; mom and dad said so.”
Cheng II and Taki II both shook their heads, as they knew just as well as Taki I that this was a lame reason.
Cheng and Taki had actually spied on Xilingshi after they saw her leave the arena. Their original reasoning though was slightly different than what they expected, but nonetheless, they recounted Xilingshi’s turning point, her confusion, and Joo Dee’s manipulation.
“She’s chi-dominant then,” Katara II remarked, (since just about everyone was in this central room at this point)
“And she’s pitted herself against benders,” Cheng II answered, “It seems that that Joo Dee woman is behind a lot of this.”
“Joo Dee,” Zakura exclaimed, “what did she look like?”
“Well,” Taki II remarked, and then she described Joo Dee as well as she could remember. Zakura was 95% sure by that time that it was the same one that she had run into (and she was right, but there was no way of proving that at this point).
“I still need a word with that woman,” Zakura remarked, clenching her fist, “no one hits me and gets away with it.”
“Really now,” Haroku laughed, and he hit Zakura hard enough to make a normal woman cry. Zakura simply took the hit without flinching.
“Aye,” Zakura replied, punching Haroku hard enough in return, “you’re hitting the Avatar; keep that in mind.”
“No,” Haroku laughed, “I’m hitting ON the Avatar.”
He gave Zakura a suggestive smirk, and she just laughed. The two of them went bickering into another room and disappeared.
“Who would have thought,” Ayumi chuckled, turning to the others; “Avatar Zakura just didn’t seem like the type to me.”
“It wasn’t just you,” Zeruda remarked, “Zakura just didn’t seem very compatible with most types of men.”
“But it makes perfect sense,” Orzon remarked, “to find a big tough guy that can KO 20 people with one move just like her. He’s cocky too; mischievous... it’s like they were made for each other.”
“Well,” Koara remarked, “mischief is what’s going on in the world. There are apparently Order forces or something that are gathering again.”
“So the game continues,” Sanaki chuckled.
“Aye,” Koara replied, “it does. What needs to happen is we need to split up into groups. Tenoko, Iresu, Zeruda, Michiko, Fukuda, Orzon, and Ayumi should be one group, Meili, Vigo, Sanaki, Maric, Malak, Reyson, Lehran, and Kimiko should be another group; Azula, The Altina Family, the Alesha Family, and Mulan and Nikita should be another, and everyone else should be whose left.”
“Who put you in charge,” Sanaki remarked,
“No one,” Koara replied, “But you should know that after 110 years of being alive, that I’m not all here. Anyways, splitting up is essential, as putting all of your turtle-duck eggs in one basket is never a good idea.”
“That’s true,” Sanaki replied, “so, what about Zakura?”
“She’s in the “whoever’s left over” group,” Koara cackled, “and if she doesn’t like the idea, she can think of a better one.”
All in all though, Zakura’s reaction was just as they predicted. She didn’t really care who she went with, and so all in all, Koara’s proposition went through with the group flawlessly.
Xin Shing’s tower had never actually fallen, and although it had brought recent skepticism from the likes of Zakura, none of Zakura’s Elite ever thought anything more of it. However, in that tower, Xin Shing resided. He had not been killed, but rather, feigned the mortal wound.
Granted, he had taken several serious hits, but so had Zakura, and from a fight of proportions like that, that was to be expected. It had been 17 years since anyone had last seen him, for he was supposed to be dead. He was now getting old, as was Yang. Orzon, Ayumi, Iresu, Zeruda, Tenoko, Michiko, Fukuda, Zhang, Zao Lin, and the rest of the folks around that age group were approaching this point, but were still hale.
“The traitors wound up prospering,” Yang remarked, referring to Orzon and Ayumi in particular, but also to Fukuda and Michiko,
“That is of small importance,” Xin Shing chuckled, “my time as the ruler of The Order of the Avatar Slayer is over. Besides, it seems that over the last few years, my “replacement” so to speak, has done a rather nice job at building up something.”
“Oh,” Yang remarked, “does she know you?”
“Not personally,” Xin Shing chuckled, “but hey, if the Avatar Mercenaries want a little fun, I believe that Joo Dee Kanigume will give them some. I won’t have to be involved at all; she seemed pretty smart.”
“Joo Dee Kanigume,” Yang remarked, “she does not serve The Order.”
“The Order will never return to its former glory during our lifetimes,” Xin Shing assured her, “like I said; our time is through. Now we just sit back and watch the younger folks duke it out. I personally am keen to see how Joo Dee plays her cards. She seems like a very tactical young woman—much like Zhin—it’s a tragedy that she’s losing it.”
“She wants her daughter back,” Yang remarked, “I’ve visited them before. ‘mini-Zhin’ is a little Chi-Dominant bender who looks just like her nickname suggests.”
“Chi-Dominant bender,” Xin Shing remarked, “much like Xilingshi?”
“Aye,” Yang replied, “perhaps letting her off on her own was not the best of ideas we’ve had.”
“It happens sometimes,” Xin Shing reassured, “don’t worry though; she should be able to fend for herself. She’s a brilliant young woman.”
Xilingshi was one of the only other people who knew that Xin Shing was alive. However, as their daughter, she had grown up rather unhappy for whatever reason. She didn’t really have a close bond to Xin Shing or Yang, and therefore didn’t really have anyone to turn to when she was feeling down, which was surprisingly often.
“So we’re going to let Joo Dee handle The Avatar Mercenaries this time, I presume then?” Yang remarked,
“Aye,” Xin Shing replied, “but of course, if we see that intervention is necessary, then so be it. Either way, it’s about time that I make my self public again—just for good measure.”
And that became Xin Shing’s new plan.
Xilingshi meanwhile kept running until she almost literally got caught in the crossfire of two sparring benders. They were both young women; one a waterbender, the other an earthbender. They seemed like they had a lot of energy, and Xilingshi felt different around them—she felt safe. These had to be Chi-Dominant Benders.
The waterbender paused to glance at the newcomer, but the earthbender used that as an opportunity to encase her in rock.
“Toph, that’s not fair,” the waterbender snapped,
“Aye, but it is,” the earthbender, apparently named Toph, remarked, “Toph Caroso does not play by any rules, Kyla Dao Le.”
“You got that custom from your mom, didn’t you,” the waterbender remarked. Her name was obviously Kyla.
“That I did,” Toph chuckled, stamping her foot and breaking the rocks from around Kyla. Both of them then turned to see Xilingshi.
“Hey,” Toph remarked, “did you wanna join us?”
They looked around 14 or 15. Xilingshi looked around 17, (4 years younger than her real age) and her face didn’t seem too friendly.
Xilingshi didn’t reply. She turned away and started walking.
“She seems upset,” Kyla remarked, and then lowered her voice to a whisper, “and she seems like one of our kind. I wish Elzon would hurry up—she’d be the one to talk with her.”
Elzon, Toph, and Kyla were actually a pretty close group. Elzon was a little distant from the other two because of her social status, but she was still their friend. Granted, they were not as close to her as Nefaho, but they were fun to play with, especially in bender spars.
Xilingshi sat down on a rock a good distance away and was just sulking. By this time though, Elzon had shown up, and out of Xilingshi’s hearing range, they told her their thoughts about her.
“She’d complete the circle,” Elzon whispered, “do you think we should talk to her a little—or, try to at least?”
“Aye,” Toph replied, “let’s do this thing.”
They agreed to go together, and though Xilingshi didn’t see it just yet, she was about to become good friends with Elzon, Toph, and Kyla.
