Anyone else a fan? I became obsessed a few months ago and have remained so ever since. If you have not seen Doctor Who, I strongly recommend you check it out, especially if you're a science fiction fan. And now for a brief synopsis...
The show revolves around "The Doctor", and alien and the last of his race, the Time Lords. The Time Lords where a species who could be considered historians and observers of time, never interfering with predetermined events. However, being the last of his race, The Doctor pretty much throws that rule out the window, although he does avoid interfering with certain fixed events. When the Time Lords near death, they regenerate, or transform into a new person. They retain the memories from their previous incarnations, but have a different appearance and personality. At this point there have been 11 doctors. The Doctor travels through time and space with several different companions in his TARDIS (or Time and Relative Dimensions in Space). Because they can go literally anywhere and anywhen they want, it never gets old.
The show began in the 1960's on BBC. After 7 incarnations of the Doctor, the show was canceled. There was a T.V. movie in the 1990's, about the 8th Doctor. In 2005 (I think) the show began again with the 9th Doctor played by Christopher Eccleston. (My personal favorite). The Tenth Doctor was played by David Tennant (You may know him as Barty Crouch Jr. from the fourth Harry Potter movie.) This spring, the next season of the show began with a new Doctor, the 11th, played by Matt Smith. This season is now almost over.
If you are interested in watching, I would suggest starting with the 2005 series. After you get caught up with this season, you may want to go back and check out some of the older episodes and older Doctors. (The Fourth Doctor is supposed to have some excellent episodes.)
Discuss.
